چکیده

An objective quality metric that generates continuous estimates of perceived quality for low bit rate video is introduced. The metric is based on a multichannel model of the human visual system. The vision model is initially parameterized to threshold data and then further optimized using video frames containing severe distortions. The proposed metric also discards processing of the finest scales to reduce computational complexity, which also results in an improvement in the accuracy of prediction for the sequences under consideration. A temporal pooling method suited to modeling continuous time waveforms is also introduced. The metric is parameterized and evaluated using the results of a Single Stimulus Continuous Quality Evaluation test conducted for CIF video at rates from 100 kbps to 800 kbps. The proposed metric Accepted for publication in Signal Processing: Image Communication exceeds the performance of a similar metric based on the Mean Squared Error.

Predicting Intelligibility of Compressed American Sign Language Video with Objective Quality Metrics

Transmission of compressed American Sign Language (ASL) video over the cellular telephone network provides the opportunity for the more than 1 million deaf people in the United States to enjoy the personalized, instant communication in their native language that is available to the hearing and speaking community. Video compression for this application introduces specific challenges, the foremos...

"Can you see me now?" An objective metric for predicting intelligibility of compressed American Sign Language video

For members of the Deaf Community in the United States, current communication tools include TTY/TTD services, video relay services, and text-based communication. With the growth of cellular technology, mobile sign language conversations are becoming a possibility. Proper coding techniques must be employed to compress American Sign Language (ASL) video for low-rate transmission while maintaining...

A Machine Learning Approach to No-Reference Objective Video Quality Assessment for High Definition Resources

The video quality assessment must be adapted to the human visual system, which is why researchers have performed subjective viewing experiments in order to obtain the conditions of encoding of video systems to provide the best quality to the user. The objective of this study is to assess the video quality using image features extraction without using reference video. RMSE values and processing ...

Objective and Subjective Measuruments for Video Compression System

In this paper the extent to which the quality of video signal is degraded by process of compression and decompression is considered. Traditional objective video signal quality measurements based on static test signals are not able to characterise the picture degradation due to compression and decompression. These measurements are indirect and resulting distortions of test signals determine vide...

Compressed Domain Scene Change Detection Based on Transform Units Distribution in High Efficiency Video Coding Standard

Scene change detection plays an important role in a number of video applications, including video indexing, searching, browsing, semantic features extraction, and, in general, pre-processing and post-processing operations. Several scene change detection methods have been proposed in different coding standards. Most of them use fixed thresholds for the similarity metrics to determine if there wa...
